Steve D'Angelo

Artist: Steve D'Angelo
Title: Dancing Sideways
Genre: Jazz: Jazz-Funk / Contemporary
Label: Indie

To describe Steve D’Angelo accurately, the phrase “musical chameleon” springs to mind. He is a genuinely fully-rounded artist, with well-honed skills that have proved adaptable in a wide range of roles and musical genres.

The combination of intellect and passion Steve brings to every situation and role has placed him in great demand on the Toronto music scene he has long called home. His reputation and his work have also travelled well beyond city limits. On this his second album Steve explores different moods and textures while maintaining the jazz tradition of improvisation . Along with his quartet of Steve Lucas bass, Chris Pruden keys and Lorenzo Castelli drums he augments his line up with some of Toronto's top session musicians such as Robi Botos keys , Davide Direnzo drums and Arturo Avalos percussion. Melodic , powerful and fresh the approach is both joyous and muscular .

The album was recorded over two sessions at two different studios Revolution and Canterbury sound in Toronto. It was mixed by veteran mix engineer Jeff Wolpert and mastered by Grammy nominated mastering engineer Joao Carvalho.

The end result is a rich sonic fabric where beautiful and intricate melodies are brought to life by unexpected harmonies and unique arrangements . Of course the playing is world class with plenty of room for soloists to shine. If you are a fan of instrumental jazz fusion then this record is a must !
