"Leask brings to his music a compellingly honest baring of the soul." - Toronto Star

David Leask is a born song chaser. A natural storyteller, creator of five critically acclaimed records and a relentless live performer, he is a recipient of the Mississauga Performing Artist of the Year Award as well as winner of the Canadian Music “Street Idol” Contest.

David has won multiple international songwriting awards in different genres and indeed, Songwriters Magazine called him, "the most consistent Canadian songwriting competition winner."

David’s music draws from Celtic soul and roots/country and he is about to release his sixth record entitled “Six in 6/8” on February 23rd. The recording was co-produced with JUNO award-winner Justin Abedin (Jacksoul/Justin Hines) & mixed by Grammy Award- winning engineer Chad Carlson. Having enjoyed national airplay on radio with his previous releases, “Six in 6/8” is a deeply evocative, soul-stirring collection of 6 songs all wrapped up in a 6/8 time signature.

The first single “Red Balloon” was co-written with Alec Steinwall and is a tribute to friend Amy Doolittle who lived with Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS) and died at age 49.

In addition to David's rich vocals and acoustic guitar, the song features an amazing cast of musicians including drummer Mark Kelso (Natalie MacMaster/Ian Tyson), bassist Peter Bleakney (Anne Murray), whistle, flute & concertina player; Loretto Reid (Glass Tiger) as well as well as 15 time IBMA dobro player of the year, Rob Ickes (Merle Haggard/Ricky Skaggs).

David’s songwriting ability has been recognized with cuts by a variety of Canadian artists including Jay Semko, Alex Runions, Twin Kennedy, Marshall Dane & Mandy Ringdal.

A gifted songwriting teacher, David has been a songwriting mentor for 10 years with the School Alliance of Student Songwriters, on the songwriting faculty for Guitar Workshop Plus, and has conducted numerous songwriting workshops at Folk Festivals and on behalf of the Songwriters Association of Canada.

In the past ten years, David has showcased at the CCMA Songwriters Café 6 times and at the CCMA Gospel Showcase twice.
